Where to Begin?

"Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.

Therefore they said to Him, What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?   Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. (John 6:27-29,35)

There is a lot to unpack in these verses. In verse 27, we learn we’re not to work for the things of this world, but for the things that matter to God. When the disciples asked how they were to do the works of God, Jesus responded that it comes from believing in the One who sent Him.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the mentality that we must “do” something in order to “be” something, but that’s not what God’s Word is telling us. He’s telling us to trust Him with where He has us and what He has us doing.

Now, in some instances we are called to "be still" and other times we are called to “go”. The only way we can know how to respond is by spending time in God’s Word listening to Him to guide and direct us every day. Without Him, we can get caught up in the everyday busyness of life.

When we respond appropriately, that is when we have contentment and peace. It doesn’t come from the fruits of our labor, but in believing where God has us and what He has us doing knowing He is fulfilling a bigger plan than we are able to see.
